Safer Use
SUPHR provides fentanyl test strips, naloxone, and online or in-person training for individuals and organizations.
Next Distro offers free naloxone and fentanyl test strips by mail. This service is anonymous and does not require insurance.
Never Use Alone strives to provide a life-saving point of contact for people who use drugs. If you must use alone, call 877-696-1996. An operator will stay on the line with you while you use to ensure you are safe.
If you are uninsured and interested in substance use treatment:
CareConnect Warmline is a virtual, low-barrier clinic aimed at reducing the barriers to accessing treatment for substance use in Philadelphia. Call 484-278-1679 from 9AM-9PM to speak with a Substance Use Navigator who can help connect patients to care. Insurance is not required.
The Behavioral Health Special Initiative can be reached at 215-546-1200.

Local:
Prevention Point Philadelphia seeks to promote health, empowerment, and safety for communities affected by drug use and poverty.
Project SAFE provides women and femme-centered harm reduction services to people involved in the street economies in Kensington.
Operation in My Backyard advocates for harm reduction and provides outreach to individuals with substance use disorders.
SOL Collective works to end the overdose crisis and advocates for overdose prevention sites.
Unity Harm Reduction offers non-clinical, peer-based recovery support services to individuals, family members, and loved ones.
Pennsylvania Harm Reduction Network promotes the health, dignity, and human rights of individuals who use drugs and communities affected by drug use.

Virtual peer support groups are open to any adult who is 18+ years of age and grieving the loss of a Philadelphia resident who died from an accidental drug overdose.
Grief counseling for adults 18+
Grief cannot be “cured,” but it can be managed, processed, and worked through in counseling that can identify new coping skills and calm negative thoughts (i.e., guilt and self-blame).
Grief Counseling for Children and Adolescents
Developmentally appropriate counseling services that include individual and family sessions.
Philly HEALs also offers a kids grief and art group.
Educational workshops on a variety of topics related to grief. Past workshop topics have included guilt and regret, setting boundaries, mindfulness and advocacy.

Crisis Support
Philadelphia 24 Hour Suicide and Crisis Intervention Line: If you, or another person, are in crisis and need emergency help, call 988. Compassionate, trained professionals are available 24-hours a day, 7 days a week. Callers will receive counseling, guidance, and direction for receiving prompt evaluation and treatment services.
Crisis Text Line is a free, 24/7 support for those in any type of crisis. If you text “NAMI” or “HOPE” to 741741 for 24/7, confidential, free crisis counseling.
Non-Crisis Support
If you are not in Crisis but are feeling down, and would like to chat to a NAMI Philly Peer or Family Member, call the NAMI Philly Warmline at 844-PHL-HOPE.
Philly LIFTs offers families mental health support through short-term therapy sessions for children 4-21 years old and people in need of post-partum support.

SUPHR’s Philly LIFTS program exists to support the families of infants diagnosed with NAS, along with families affected by substance use disorder.
General Services
The team provides the following: baby supplies, clothing, employment assistance, overdose prevention training, and referrals to food and home visiting programs including a public health nurse.

Support Groups

Request Syringe Disposal Box Pick-up:
To promote a clean and safe community, we have installed several freestanding needle drop boxes in Kensington and adjacent neighborhoods. These boxes are conveniently placed near SEPTA stations and available 24/7 for anyone to safely dispose of their needles.
Upon request, the program also installs smaller, wall-mounted needle drop boxes outside of local organizations. To request information on how to install a needle box in your community, please contact Cristina Laboy at cristina.laboy@phila.gov or 215-668-5107.

Find a Dumpster:
The Philadelphia Department of Sanitation operates six sanitation convenience centers for residents to dispose of trash and recyclables that are not able to be collected during regular trash pick-ups. Visit the City’s Trash, Recycling City Upkeep page for more information about accepted materials, requirements and center locations.

The environmental services team manages porta potties and two permanent restroom structures as a part of a city initiative to increase access to public restrooms. Hours and locations are:
