Communications Team
The Division of Substance Use Prevention and Harm Reduction Communications program aims to produce respectful and informative messages, allowing residents to learn about and locate available resources.
The Communications team creates targeted materials to promote messages about resources for safer drug use, like naloxone and fentanyl test strips, and treatment options, like buprenorphine (also known as Suboxone), to those who use drugs, their loved ones, and the general population. The program supports other teams in SUPHR and community partners by creating pamphlets, flyers, and videos to ensure cohesive, creative, inclusive, and stigma-free messaging. The team’s primary focus is to fill gaps in drug use knowledge by utilizing innovative ads and distribution methods to appropriately communicate with communities and populations most at risk of overdose. This means performing equitable data analysis, engaging with people who use drugs, expanding our geographic reach, and accepting that drug use is not uniform.
Over the last few years, the program has produced two city-wide multi-media campaigns, Bupe Works and Bring Home Naloxone, as well as multiple grass-roots initiatives, such as a mailed fentanyl awareness and test strips postcard, In Philly, We Keep Each Other Safe, and a fentanyl test strip demonstration pamphlet.
